On December 9 & 10, 2013, the Women’s Bureau will host a commemorative event for the 50th Anniversary of American Women: Report of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women, 1963.

Special Guest Tina Tchen, Chief of Staff to the First Lady and Executive Director of White House Council on Women and Girls 

Panel Discussion: 
Working Families

“Breadwinner” women and mothers and the realities of working families and caregivers, including workplace flexibility, leave options and childcare.

Induction of Esther Peterson into the DOL Hall of Honor

Lunch remarks by U.S. Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (Third District, Connecticut).

The status of women in today’s economy, including women’s labor force participation, changing demographics and new workplace realities.

Compensation, Earnings, and Equality
The continuing gender wage gap; occupational segregation; and the concentration of women in lower-paid and minimum wage occupations.

Worker Voice and Women’s Economic Advancement
Worker empowerment and collective bargaining in the workplace.

Over Her Lifetime
Career entry and advancement, occupational mobility and older workers.

There will be lots of opportunities for questions and interactions during the day.
