Jan 28 , 2015 Apprenticeship Plans and Fiduciary Responsibilties Webcast Apprenticeship and training programs that cover private sector workers and are financed out of trust funds are covered by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). ERISA sets standards of conduct for those who manage an employee benefit plan and its assets, including fiduciary responsibilities, submitting reports to the government, and disclosing information to workers participating in the plans. While ERISA-covered apprenticeship and training plans can be exempted from several ERISA requirements including annual reporting, audits, disclosures, and recordkeeping if specified conditions are met, the plan fiduciaries are still subject to ERISA's fiduciary responsibility standards and prohibited transaction rules. This webcast will increase awareness and understanding of ERISA for apprenticeship plan officials. Speakers from the U.S. Department of Labor will present information on the basic fiduciary responsibilities, including recent guidance on skills competitions, prohibited transactions and exemptions, the reporting and disclosure exemption for apprenticeship plans, and the Department's voluntary correction programs.
