The rules for employment of youth under the FLSA differ when the youth is employed by a parent or person standing in place of a parent.

A youth will be regarded as employed by a parent, if a parent is sole owner of the business, or the youth's parents are the only partners in a partnership or the only stockholders in a corporation.
