MSHA Fire Suppression and Fire Protection Advisor

You have selected underground electrical equipment, power and battery stations, battery charging stations, and primary escapeway with miners inby.

The Advisor indicates that this is allowed when used to maintain escapeway.75.380(f)(3)(iii)(A)

The minimum requirements are:

1A. Housed in noncombustible structure or area75.340(a), and:
    (a)  vented to return7.340(a)(1)(i)
     OR
    (b)  ventilated with intake airand monitored for CO or smoke by an AMS (75.351)75.340(a)(1)(ii);
     OR  
     (c)  vented with intake and monitored for heat and either CO or smoke.
           Sensors shall do all of the following:
          (i)   deenergize the installation
          (ii)  activate a visual & audible alarm
          (iii) activate automatic door closure
                   75.340(a)(1)(iii)
OR

1B. Provided with a fire suppression system installed according to the requirements of 75.1107-3 thru 75.1107-1675.340(a), and either:
    (a)  vented with intake air coursed to return75.340(a)(2)(i)
     OR
     (b)  ventilated with intake and monitored for CO or smoke by an AMS (75.351).75.340(a)(2)(ii)

2A.  Two 2A:10B:C portable fire extinguishers or one having at least twice the minimum capacity at permanent installations.75.1100-2(e)(1)
OR
2B.  One 2A:10B:Cportable fire extinguisher and 240 pounds of rock dust at temporary installations.75.1100-2(e)(2)

For battery charging stations, sensors can not be affected by Hydrogen.75.340(a)(1)(ii) and (iii) and75.340(a)(2)(ii)
