Alternatively, to qualify for exemption as a highly compensated administrative employee, an employee must customarily and regularly perform one or more duties or responsibilities that are directly related to the management or general business operations of his or her employer's customers. One example is a management consultant employed by a company that studies the operations of a business and proposes changes in the organization to improve management efficiency. Other examples include a tax expert or marketing consultant providing advice to management officials of the employer's clients.
