Alternatively, to qualify for exemption as an administrative employee, an employee must perform as his or her primary duty office or non-manual work that is directly related to the management or general business operations of his or her employer's customers. One example is a management consultant employed by a company that studies the operations of a business and proposes changes in the organization to improve management efficiency. Other examples include a tax expert or marketing consultant providing advice to management officials of the employer's clients.
