Having a new child may provide opportunities for you and your family to obtain or change health coverage. Having a child may also affect your current group health plan coverage. For instance, if you are currently covered under COBRA continuation coverage, your adopted child or newborn can be covered by the same plan even though the child was not covered by the plan prior to the qualifying event, so long as the plan rules provide coverage for dependent children.
