Did the affected employee’s injury or illness involve signs or symptoms that resulted solely from a non-work-related event or exposure that occurred outside of the work environment?
NOTE: For this exception to apply, the work environment cannot have caused, contributed to, or "significantly aggravated" the injury or illness. An example of this type of injury or illness would be a diabetic incident while an employee is working. Because no event or exposure at work contributed in any way to the diabetic incident, the case is not recordable. See, the preamble to the 2001 final rule revising OSHA’s recordkeeping regulation at 66 Federal Register 5951.
