Veterans' Preference Advisor
You indicated that:
- You were released or discharged from active duty by reason of sole survivorship after August 29, 2008.
You appear to be eligible for a 0-point preference in hiring. To determine whether you have preference during a Reduction in Force, review the RIF Eligibility section of the Advisor. The sections on benefits may also provide additional information. Please return to the Main Menu to select the appropriate section.
Under the sole survivorship preference, the individual:
- does not receive Veterans' Preference points as other preference eligibles do when the “rule of 3” is applied;
- is entitled to be listed ahead of non-preference eligibles with the same score on an examination, or listed ahead of non-preference eligibles in the same quality category when agencies are using category rating;
- is entitled to receive the same pass over rights as other preference eligibles; and
- is entitled to credit experience in the Armed Forces to meet the qualification requirements for Federal jobs.
Individuals that were released or discharged by reason of a sole survivorship discharge with less than 180 days of consecutive service between 9/11/2001 to 8/31/2010 should contact OPM for additional guidance.
