FLSA - Child Labor Rules
Thank you for taking the time to review the information in the FLSA Child Labor Advisor concerning the employment of youth in non-agricultural occupations. We hope we have given you enough information so that you can comply with the FLSA child labor rules. If you have any questions, please contact your local Wage and Hour Office.
In addition, there are employer guides and other information, such as the Code of Federal Regulations, available on-line.
You also have the option of reviewing the rules for employment of youth in agriculture.
All states have child labor rules, mandatory school attendance laws, and determine the minimum age at which youth may operate motor vehicles. When state and Federal child labor rules are different, the rule that provides the most protection to the youth is the one that must be followed.
