FLSA - Child Labor Rules
You have reviewed the FLSA child labor rules for employment in non-agricultural occupations. You should be able to tell whether the job your child thought he or she would like is allowed for someone his or her age. If it is, wish your child luck, and encourage him or her to work safely.
It's great if your child already has a job and it fits within the rules for someone his or her age. But, if you are concerned that it is against the rules for your child to perform some part of the work, you may want to continue with the FLSA Child Labor Advisor to review information on enforcement of the rules, and how to contact the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor.
If you want specific information, there are pamphlets and other materials available on-line. Click on child labor publications to view.
