FLSA - Child Labor Rules

You have reviewed the Federal child labor rules for employment in agriculture. You should be able to tell whether the job held by (or desired by) the youth you are interested in is allowed for someone his or her age. If it is, wish the youth luck, and encourage him or her to work safely.

If the youth already has a job on a farm and you are concerned that it is against the rules for him or her to perform some part of the work, you may want to continue with the Child Labor Advisor to gather information on enforcement of the rules, and how to contact the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor.

For more information, there are pamphlets and other materials such as Farm Safety 4 Just Kids available online. Click on child labor publications to view additional information.
