An employer may seek authentication and/or clarification of a completed WH-385 (or other form used to certify military caregiver leave) or an ITO or ITA under the same guidelines as those provided for medical certification. (See Medical Certification – Authentication and Clarification.)

An employer may require an employee to provide confirmation of the covered family relationship the employee has to the seriously injured or ill servicemember (including for leave supported by an ITO or ITA). (See Confirmation of Relationship.)

Recertifications are not permitted for leave to care for a current servicemember.
