Youth Employment

Each year, millions of teens work part-time or take summer jobs, gaining valuable work skills and contributing enthusiasm and eagerness to businesses across the country. Special laws govern their employment.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division oversees the Fair Labor Standards Act's (FLSA) child labor provisions, which specify the hours young workers can work, the jobs they may perform and the jobs that are designated too hazardous for them to perform.
